Karla Nichole Garcia is a first generation born Dominican American digital painter. Her works are based on what it’s like to live through a unique Latino experience in America. Through painting portraits of women within surreal and unsettling environments, Karla depicts a personal journey in which she can express traumatic memories and release them. Karla refers to her artworks as shadow work. Emotions and experiences that tend to remain taboo are brought to life through facial expressions and occult symbolism within her paintings. Using influences from vintage America and Dominican culture, the images feel nostalgic all while remaining true to the artist’s personal journey.
